1. Book Rooms With Good Lock Systems
When booking a hotel room, ask them what type of locking system is on the room doors. With the increase in crime in the world, it’s a good idea to book a hotel room that features either an electronic locking system or that has a deadbolt and chain lock to help reduce the risk of break-ins. It’s also a good idea to choose a hotel that features a peephole on their doors. This allows you to see who is at the door prior to opening it. This will help you and your belongings to stay safe.
2. Staff Visits and Room Service
Room service or staff visits to your room may be needed at times depending on the hotel and room that you’ve chosen. However, there have been incidents where criminals have posed as hotel employees to gain access to the room and to your items. If you’ve been approached by a ‘hotel’ staff at a strange hour, or you haven’t been notified they were coming, call the front desk first before letting them in to confirm that they have sent someone to talk to you. If they haven’t it’s best to notify the hotel staff and to not open the door.
3. Keep The Essentials Closes
When staying in a hotel, it’s a good idea to keep your essential items close to you in case you have to leave in a hurry. Keep your wallet, keys, phone, and a pair of shoes next to the bed, so if there’s an evacuation notice, you don’t have to rush around, half asleep to find everything that you need. It’s not uncommon that a hotel has been evacuated due to a fire outbreak or another reason, and if you leave your wallet behind it can be hard for you to get your cards and ID back again or updated, especially in a new country.
4. Lock Valuables In A Safe
If you have a choice and the money when booking a hotel room, it’s a good idea to try and book one that has a safe. Hotel rooms that have safes offer more security for those who have valuable possessions. When going out you can place your computer and any other expensive device within the safe for the day without the risk of it getting stolen. These safes are generally fixed within the wall. Because of this it makes it hard for thieves to take them out and damage them.
